Scindia Shipyard
In an era when the British held monopoly over Indian shipping, Walchand Hirachand dared to challenge the status quo. He co-founded the Scindia Steam Navigation Company in 1919 and later established the Scindia Shipyard — India's first privately-owned shipbuilding yard.
The SS Loyalty, launched in 1941, was the first ocean-going vessel built by an Indian company, marking a watershed moment in India's maritime history.
